TLTR:

Writing blog content with an SEO perspective allows you to enhance website visibility, generate new organic traffic, increase brand authority, and boost online conversions. But how do you write SEO-focused articles and why should you do it? Discover the benefits of SEO blogging and the steps to create an SEO-friendly article.

Writing SEO Articles: 4 Advantages

1. Improve Website Visibility

SEO-optimized content makes it easier to be found within search engines like Google or Bing, appearing among the top results on the search results page when users search for relevant keywords.

2. Generate New Organic Traffic

Creating authoritative, relevant, and high-quality SEO articles attracts new online users from search engines who are interested in a specific topic and potentially unaware of the website.

3. Increase Brand Authority

For the same reason, an SEO strategy aiming to position blog content among the top results on SERPs can enhance the site’s reputation, both in the eyes of users and search engines.

4. Boost Online Conversions

User and SEO-friendly texts can encourage users to take valuable actions within the site, such as purchasing a product, subscribing to a newsletter, or providing contact details.

There is no single method to write SEO articles, but there are concepts to keep in mind when engaging in this activity: studying the relevant industry, analyzing SERP competitors, researching keywords, and writing SEO-oriented text.

    1st Step: Industry Study

Writing an SEO-focused article cannot be separated from studying the relevant industry. This step helps understand the needs and expectations of the target audience to create content that is useful and relevant to the user.

By doing so, the audience can have a better reading experience of the blog article, increasing the likelihood of the content being viewed and shared on the web. Additionally, studying the industry helps identify the most relevant keywords to use.

In studying a specific industry, it’s important to consider:

    • Who are the top websites you’ll be competing with?
    • What are the most searched category themes by users?

For both steps, you can rely on some free online tools:

    • SEOZoom’s “Top Websites Rankings” provides a list of the top 100 domains within a specific category and nationality, following Google’s classification.
    • Google Trends allows you to analyze topics and frequently used search queries, customizing the analysis by nationality, time frame, and search engine.

In SEOZoom’s ‘Top Websites Rankings’ section, you can navigate through the categories recognized by Google or identify them through a website.

In ‘Google Trends,’ you can analyze any search query by country, time period, category and search engine type.

Analyzing these data, it’s possible to identify certain topics, high-volume short-tail keywords, and generic search intents, from which to derive the main theme of the blog content.

    2nd step: Competitor Analysis

Studying who the competitors are in the search results is essential to understand what strategies they are using to rank at the top of the SERP and, consequently, adopt similar or alternative solutions to achieve a better ranking.

The underlying reasoning is simple: if I want to write an SEO article for the first page of Google, the question is… compared to whom? Additionally, analyzing the SERP helps to understand whether the chances of ranking are higher or lower based on the chosen topic.

By entering the identified main keywords into the search bar, we can determine the number of ranked pages and the presence of rich snippets (zero results, frequently asked questions boxes).

The Italian Google SERP for “SEO copywriting” features a rich result and a People Also Ask snippet in the Above the Fold section.

Another piece of advice is to monitor the SERP in the weeks leading up to the writing of the SEO article, to detect any position changes among the top 10 results. If there’s movement among the top 10 search results, it’s a positive sign: it means that the SERP is dynamic rather than static, and that potentially other content can rank.

Finally, it’s beneficial to read and carefully study the first 10 pages present in the SERP, to get an idea of the structure of the articles and identify potential interesting insights (or evident gaps) in the different content that we can use to our advantage.

    3rd step: keyword research

Having understood the search intent of the topic, learned more about competitors, and analyzed the SERP structure, it’s time to dedicate ourselves to keyword research.

Structured and organized keyword analysis is helpful in writing content that:

    • precisely and comprehensively addresses online user searches;
    • is considered useful, interesting, and relevant by search engines.

Only in this way can an SEO-optimized article be more easily found on the web.

There are several tools available that can help in the search for secondary keywords with the same intent starting from a main keyword: SEOZoom, Ubersuggest, Semrush, Ahrefs, Answer The Public, Keywordtool.io… just to name a few.

The main SEO tools allow us to find new interesting keywords starting from a general main keyword.

However, we can already gather some information from search engine bars: Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. all have a keyword auto-completion system where we can identify long-tail keywords with more specific search intents.

It’s also useful to explore sections present in the SERP, such as Related Searches or People Also Ask, to identify patterns among searches on a specific topic and possibly leverage them in a dedicated manner within the SEO article.

    google search snippet related searches
The snippets appearing in Google SERPs are numerous and can provide additional insights for keyword research.

Once a good number of keywords are obtained, it’s necessary to organize them into clusters, groups of keywords conceptually divided based on the collected insights. This allows for a clearer picture of the identified keywords and how to structure the SEO article: write dedicated paragraphs, add multimedia files, insert Calls to Action

    4th step: content writing

The fundamental concepts behind an SEO-optimized article are few and simple: high-quality content must demonstrate expertise, authority, reliability, and competence.

It’s crucial to write for users, not just for search engines: hidden text on the page, copied from other sources, or filled with keywords (keyword stuffing) should be avoided.

There are also some specific considerations for optimizing an SEO article, including: using heading titles to create clear and concise paragraphs, using italics when necessary and bold for important words, using bulleted or numbered lists to make a concept more comprehensive, adding useful links for references or further reading, inserting images or videos to enhance the content, filling in on-page meta tags.

In the months following publication, it’s equally crucial to monitor the article’s ranking, the trend of organic traffic, and the positions of keywords (for example, in Google Search Console) to potentially revisit the content.

PLUS: Relying on an SEO agency

Writing an SEO-focused article might not always be so simple: search engine ranking algorithms constantly change, some sectors have particularly strong competition, and it’s generally an activity that takes time before yielding evident results and requires various technical skills.

For this reason, companies often turn to specialized SEO copywriting agencies like Antartika to improve the visibility of their content on search engines, thereby increasing organic traffic and online conversions on the website.
